Why a Species Meet?
Freedive Hunting is the only method to practice “Release before you Catch” rather than “Catch and Release” as is done by all other forms of sport fishing. Freedive hunters are given the opportunity to select an individual fish and let the rest swim by and/or, select their trophy abalone, rather than stressing and endangering several animals, until a suitable one is harvested. A Species Meet was created to determine the most proficient freedive hunter by establishing rules in which diversity, rather than total aggregate weight of a catch, will prove who the most successful freedive hunter really is.
Registration and Refund Policy:
Competitors may register at the day of the meet, but if you pre-register, you pay a lower entry fee. This year there is a maximum of 150 divers for this event. In the event of inclement weather on Tournament day, all prizes will be raffled that day. Competitors less than 18 years of age must have their parent or guardian co-sign their disclaimer form.
NO REFUNDS! If you are unable to attend the event and have already registered, you may have someone pick a prize for you or dive in your place.
